Some Truths About Milk ~ I found them a bit interesting

Here are four milk myths you might have heard, and why you should consider answering the cowbell more often.

Claim #1: “Milk is a fat-burning food.”

The Truth: Maybe. In a 6-month study, University of Tennessee researchers found that overweight people who downed three servings a day of calcium-rich dairy lost more belly fat than those who followed a similar diet minus two or more of the dairy servings. In addition, the researchers discovered that calcium supplements didn’t work as well as milk. Why? They believe that while calcium may increase the rate at which your body burns fat, other active compounds in dairy (such as milk proteins) provide an additional fat-burning effect.

Bonus tip: For more surefire ways to eat healthier and slim down, check out our list of the 25 Best Nutrition Secrets!

Claim #2: “Drinking milk builds muscle.”

The Truth: Absolutely. In fact, milk is one of the best muscle foods on the planet. Milk is full of high-quality protein: about 80 percent casein and 20 percent whey. Whey is known as a “fast protein” because it’s quickly broken down into amino acids and absorbed into the bloodstream—perfect for post-workout consumption. Casein, on the other hand, is digested more slowly—ideal for providing your body with a steady supply of smaller amounts of protein for a longer period of time, such as between meals or while you sleep.
Bonus Tip: Remember the old saying "Milk: not just for breakfast anymore." Well, here are 20 foods that shouldn't be for breakfast, period. Check out our shocking list of the Worst Breakfasts in America!

Claim #3: “Cows are given antibiotics. Doesn’t that make their milk unhealthy?”

The Truth: No one really knows. Some scientists argue that milk from cows given antibiotics leads to antibiotic resistance in humans, making these types of drugs less effective when you take them for an infection. But this has never been proven.

It is true that hormones and antibiotics have never been part of a cow’s natural diet, and they have been shown to have adverse effects on the animals. Canadian researchers, for example, discovered that cows given hormones are more likely to contract an udder infection called mastitis. If you’re uneasy, you can purchase antibiotic-free (and typically hormone-free, as well) milk from producers like Horizon and Organic Valley at most major supermarkets. The cows will certainly thank you.

Bonus tip: While you're at the supermarket, add these foods to your list: the 125 best supermarket foods. Remember: You don't have to sacrifice flavor to eat healthier.

Claim #4: “Fat-free milk is much healthier than whole.”

The Truth: Nope. While you’ve probably always been told to drink reduced-fat milk, the majority of scientific studies show that drinking whole milk actually improves cholesterol levels—just not as much as drinking fat-free does. One recent exception: Danish researchers found that men who consumed a diet rich in whole milk experienced a slight increase in LDL cholesterol (six points). However, it’s worth noting that these men drank six 8-ounce glasses a day, an unusually high amount. Even so, their triglycerides—another marker of heart-disease risk—decreased by 22 percent. The bottom line: Drinking two to three glasses of milk a day, whether it’s fat-free, 2%, or whole, lowers the likelihood of both heart attack and stroke—a finding confirmed by British scientists.

SwagBucks

So, wondering what they are and how they work? You earn swagbucks by searching the web, finding hidden "swag codes", referring friends, even shopping online! Yes, you earn bucks from shopping online!!! They also do random give-aways for various amounts of swagbucks, just for reading the blog, watching a 2 minutes video, 1 buck for taking a daily poll...all in all it is very cool and does reward!

Is this real? YES! I have almost 3000 swagbucks and I am saving them up. I earned 400 by using the site to shop at Nike online. Jordan earned enough to order a poster and it came in the mail on Friday. A good friend of mine uses her swagbucks to purchase Amazon gift cards. 450 swagbucks = $5 gift card.

You earn by using their search engine. You can go to swagbucks.com and search from there or you can download their toolbar. There is also a widget, "swidget" which if you scroll down my page you will see it. There is a swag code there for new users to ear 20 swagbucks! Click on the Swag Codes button and check for a code you'll find a special sign-up code that'll get you a bonus 20 Swag Bucks when you sign up, which you can also do from my Swidget. Just copy and paste that swag code int the box at the bottom of the sign-up box that says "SwagCode"

Dear Dad

Well, it seems I have been written out of your life. I have my thoughts on why, but I am not going to worry about it. We are both adults, and asking questions, no matter how uncomfortable they might be, is something adults do. Instead of asking me or talking to me, on my assumption as to what you are angry about, you just decided it was easier to get mad and hold a grudge and disown your own child. I just can't do the stress of trying to hold things together for and with everyone in my life. For once I realize that relationships work two ways and you meet in the middle, not one person going further than the other.

I am sorry you have been sick. Although I get told months later, I still worry. It just makes me wonder when or if I will get the call when something serious happens to you. When it is too late? Does the past 36 years of my life and our relationship mean nothing to you? I have stuck by you and been there and listened to the griping and hurt you felt because of the situation with the other kids, even when I did not agree I bit my tongue and sometimes sugar-coated what I said. I have had to listen to both sides of the situation from siblings and you and mom and just fought hard to have a relationship with both parents and not be on the outs because I talked to one or the other.

Grandma/Nana was sick. Family so worried that she may not make it, and yet you told people you did not know how to get a hold of me? What is that all about? My phone numbers have not changed since moving here, my email has not changed, you know I am on Facebook, MySpace, and Yahoo Messenger. Why would you say you do not know how to contact me? That is my grandmother, whether you are angry with me or not. She may have made me angry in the past, and she may have stopped talking to all of us when you and mom divorced, but she is still my grandmother and I still care about her and love her and would like to know that she is OK.

I can't say I am angry with you over not talking to me, just disappointed that you would not confront me on what you are angry about. I am angry that you took it out on my husband and my children. George thinks of you as a father. He looks up to you, he laughs with you, he looks forward to talking to you. He deployed and you could not even call to say goodbye and be safe. He was worried about you last week and emailed, and you could not even write him back. You have grandchildren and a great-grandchild. 3 of your grandchildren are old enough to know who you are, where you live, what you look like, what you sound like and have formed a relationship with you. Do you not think they notice you never call, write, email, send a card? They are children. You are the adult. You cut them out of your life because you are angry with their mother?! Why do you do this?

I would never expect any answers from you. I definitely do not want to argue over the answers I might get. I just had to write things I am feeling and let out some of my frustrations. I am sure I did not let out as much as I could, but I have been working on not sticking my foot in my mouth and not being an ass to those around me. "Wisdom is having lots to say and not saying it."

I do hope all is well with you and with Patty. I do hope Nana is doing much better. When or if you decide you would like to talk, to any of us here, the numbers are all still the same.

I love you.

Life Update!

So, mid-Feb is here! Is that a good thing? I am hoping so! Been having a so-so month with family...having issues with Katie and trying very hard to grasp what I am suppose to do. She is spoiled, I know this. She needs discipline, I know this. I try! She is so much like Zach was it is scary. I have so afraid to have another 11 years like the past 10 have been with him. I do try and punish her, I have taken to busting her butt and she does nothing but yell at me. I take things, she doesn't care. I have grounded her to the house with no playing with friends and it ends up as an "oh well" thing as well. Where do I go from here? Gosh this question is just a repeat of what I did when Zach was her age!

She is stealing things from friends. Yes, better than a store, but we are talking cash, change, lipstick from friends, friends parents, me, and a teacher at school. When we go to my mom's she gets into everything she is not suppose to and takes all my step-dad's change to use in the gumball machine and candy machine. Her lying about it makes it worse and she doesn't seem to care when she gets in trouble or caught. She has written all over her dresser in marker (the one I sanded a repainted in July), all over her closet doors, her wall....this is something a 2 year old does, not a 7 year old! I am at the end of my rope here and really not in the mood to hear how much discipline she needs!

On another note...Jordan is mouthy and lazy; Zach is still mouthy and lazy but not as lazy as Jordan; the dog still craps in the house and pees in the house if he is allowed upstairs or left out of his kennel downstairs for any amount of time; and I am still procrastinating over house cleaning and doing my real estate classes that have to be completed in a month!

Another one of those days

You know those days that you just can't seem to catch a break?! Today is one of those days! My tax returns should have been here today and it isn't! Why? Because I bounced a check to AAFES and I have been procrastinating to go pay it. So, it was the first thing on my list to get done. Well, NOT gonna happen! AAFES held up my tax refund for an unspecified amount of time to pay the $50 I owe. $50 freaking dollars holds up $8000 more!

No, I don;t need the money right now and don't want it to do anything special at the moment, but I wanted to go grocery shop and G wanted a few things, so I wanted to be able to say "hey babe, go get what you wanted". Now I can't. Kerry got hers, Alyssa hers, my brother his....and yet here I sit! Just pisses me off!

An Ugh Day

I am missing my hubby today...not that I don't miss him every day, but I am really missing him today. I want to snuggle, I want him to make me feel better from this stupid bug bite. I feel drained, like I could sleep all day..sorta depressed but I don't feel "depressed" just tired. Can this just be over with? I want it to end and yet I don't want to feel good having my hunny home and Kerry still missing Derek...guess that is the good friend I am lol Oh well...just needed to talk I guess.

One month of 2010 down

Well, January was pretty uneventful. Things seem to be much better with G and I. I seriously think he is going through a midlife crisis. Still slow on the weight loss meter here for me though...not helping my self esteem at all. Katie chopped at her hair this past weekend and I had to get it cut off...hurt me to watch and all I could say was "Oh my God" I was in shock.

My photography has really been on the back burner since moving here and still is. I signed up for a Real Estate course and it is paid for and I had 6 months to complete it..well, I have 2 months left and have not even touched the surface of what I have to learn. I just can not get the info to sink in and I can not seem to stop procrastinating! I wish I had a study buddy right about now.

Life is just going day by day and it isn't bad, so I guess I could not ask for more.
